Set in a peaceful rural location, near the pretty and historic town of Ledbury, The Wainhouse is a converted wagon store tucked away in the grounds of a Grade 2* Listed semi-moated medieval hall-house.
There is so much to do-walks from the property itself, or along the Malvern Hills for example, or further afield along Offa's Dyke. We provide routes and maps for you to borrow.
Sightseeing can take you to Eastnor Castle, Hereford Cathedral with the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library, the black and white village trail, or Hergest Croft gardens.
This is Elgar country; The Three Choirs Festival takes place yearly in Hereford, Worcester or Gloucester cathedral. The Hay and Cheltenham Festivals are also annual events as is the Ledbury Poetry Festival, described by Andrew Motion as the best poetry festival in England.
There is horse-racing at Hereford, Ludlow and Cheltenham and there are golf courses nearby, riding stables and fishing lakes. For the more energetic, there is grassboarding and a variety of outdoor activities in the Symonds Yat area.
Cheltenham can hardly be bettered for shopping and there are specialist shops such as Royal Worcester to find.
Look for the Flavours of Herefordshire in our award-winning local cider and perry makers, micro-breweries and vineyards. From ice-cream to cheese-making, Herefordshire beef to Scotch eggs, you will find plenty of wonderful local produce to sample and take away with you. Some of it will be in your welcome basket.

The pretty cream kitchen with blue and cream tiles has a dishwasher, full oven and hob with a microwave, fridge-freezer and washer-dryer. If you don't feel much like cooking, we keep the freezer stocked with award-winning local chef-prepared frozen meals ready to be popped into the oven and served onto the Spode china. If you enjoy cooking, there are recipe books to help you and utensils which you might need from a garlic press to a food mixer. For entertainment, watch the birds at the bird-feeder through the kitchen window. | | |
The dining and sitting area is warm and cosy in winter with a log-burning stove to curl up in front of, (all logs provided) whilst in summer, the two huge arched windows can be flung open to the south-facing walled terrace. Eat inside at the antique oak gate-leg table or on the terrace where there is a barbecue and garden furniture. If the sun becomes too warm, drag your recliner into the shade provided by the vine-covered pergola, or, if you enjoy sunbathing, take it down onto the private lawned area. On a winter night, watch a DVD or video in front of the fire or in summer look out for bats or barn-owls swooping low through the twilight on their way to an evening's hunting. |
