"Hunter's Rest" Cottage offers a peaceful, cosy retreat by the side of a steep wooded valley where wildlife and birds can regularly be seen. Set in the Forest of Bowland/Ribble Valley, near to the historic Stonyhurst College School.
This property is 1 1/4 miles from Hurst Green and has lovely views of the Valley, and many walks and cycle paths to explore nearby. The Tolkien Trail and Stonyhurst College are only 1 mile away.
The Cottage was once the Cook's Cottage to the Farmhouse, when is was a Hunting Lodge and reputedly used by King Henry VII when hunting in the adjoining deer park. Many of the original features - a wood burning stove in the old inglenook fireplace, oak beams and wattle and daub plaster work have all been retained.
The lovely market town of Clitheroe is only 7 miles away with it's Norman Castle and Keep. The valley has many very beautiful villages to explore. There is the Roman ruins at Ribchester to visit and Whalley Abbey remains. Manchester, The Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are all within an hours drive or from Whalley or Clitheroe Railway Station if you wish not to drive to Manchester. The RSPB regularly offer guided walks to view the hen harrier that flies over the fells of Bowland.
The Ribble Valley/Forest of Bowland are renown for producing wholesome produce and there are many outstanding restaurants and Hotels offering local fine food. Hurst Green village has 3 Pubs/hotels offering food
