Shepherd's Rest cottage adjoins the main 17th century farmhouse on a working sheep farm in the conservation village of Burton Overy, Leicestershire. Definitely a cottage of traditional character and charm with high ceilings and exposed beams but still feeling very warm and inviting! Beautiful countryside at your door step to either start a long hike or have a gentle stroll around our farm. You can collect fresh eggs in the morning, picnic in our ancient ridge and furrow fields and explore our woodlands and rare hay meadow in the afternoon. In the evening you can then visit the pub down the lane for some good village fare!
You can get involved in lambing, charcoal making, hay baling, tree coppicing or just watch at a distance! If you are feeling less energetic, a landrover farm tour is a must!
Lots of lovely old market towns within 30 minutes drive - Market Harborough, Melton, Oakham and Uppingham. Foxton Locks is only 20 minutes by car which has a relaxing canal walk with small museum, coffee shop and the Foxton Locks Inn. Market Harborough has an excellent rail link to London St Pancreas (70 minutes).
Rutland Water is within easy reach too for all your water sport needs and also a great place to walk or hire bicycles.
The cottage is ideally situated for Leicester City Centre which is again about 20 minutes by car. On a wet day you can book the cinema, go to a museum, visit the Shires Shopping Centre or have a fabulous day out at the Space Centre.

All new equipment appliances in 2006. These include electric hob and oven, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and washer/dryer. Cupboards are of a light wooden finish and grey slate look worktops. A period pine table and chairs making eating a pleasure. Ample utensils and cooking equipment provided and also plenty of washing up liquid, rubber gloves and dishcloths!! Kitchen towel, tea towels and essential food supplies are left for you (tea bags, coffee, sugar, bread, milk and butter). Also fresh baking made upon request. | | |
The living room is part of the kitchenette. Oak floor boards, wood burning stove and an iron chandelier are the main features of this room. It comprises also of a comfortable sofa bed which is suitable for a child under 12 and a television with DVD player. A side lamp and table are also provided. |
