Upstream from here can be found ‘The Hermitage’ a dwelling hewn out of the rock on the opposite side of the river, you can be rowed across to access this strange curiosity A sandy beach is only half a mile away with fabulous golden sands which stretch for miles northwards towards Alnmouth and south to Amble harbour.
Amble is a fishing town and boasts a marina and boat trips are available here, for fishing or to cruise around the lovely Coquet Island, a bird reserve which hosts a large colony of Roseate Terns Warkworth has several pubs, restaurant, a coffee house, shops, and art galleries. Take a walk by the river and enjoy a variety of bird-life, and even a seal or otter take a trip upstream occasionally.
