Rose Cottage is furnished comfortably, it is used during the winter as the family holiday home. It has an open fire and good electric heating makes the cottage and ideal spring or autumn break. There is a large safe garden surrounded by fields usually full of sheep and there is off road parking.
It is one mile from the small country town of Wooler which has excellent shopping, with good local foodshops, cafes and pubs and gift shops. It is 12 miles from the wonderful beaches of Northumberland. There are castles Bamburgh, Holy Island, Dunstanburgh and Norham, country houses Cragside, Mellerstain, Paxton, Alnwick Castle. Walk the Cheviot hills from the doorstep.
The cottage is just off the St Cuthberts long distance footpath and within a few miles of the Pennine Way. Edinburgh and Newcastle are within easy reach as is the Roman Wall. Coldstream is 11 miles away leading to the scottish border country with its connections to Sir Walter Scott. Kelso, Selkirk and Hawick. Berwick on Tweed with its Eliabethan walls still complete makes a great day out and there is an interesting trail showing where Lowrie painted when he was on holiday there. Golf is available close by, fishing on the Tweed and the Till, bird watching particularly on Holy Island and Budle Bay, horse riding and cycle hire are available in Wooler.
Some wonderful gardens are easily reached including the Duchess of Northumberland's Alnwick garden, Chesters, Monteviot and the Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.

The kitchen small but well furnished with a dishwasher, clothes washer, electric oven and hotplate and a micro wave. The sink has wonderful view over the valley which helps with the washing up! There is quality china sufficient for 6 people. It has a food processor and excellent cooking equipment. It is a modern addition to the house. | | |
The sitting room is the original living room of the old cottage with windows to the road and down the garden. It has a sofa, and two comfortable chairs all recently upholstered. You enter it from the small lobby and there are doors to the kitchen, the bedrooms and the sun room. There is an open fire and all logs and coal are provided. There is further heating if necessary. There is a small digital television with a DVD player. Telephone for the use of tenants. | | |
There is a sun room with a dining table, which was made locally,a pew on one side and dining chairs on the other. The room has views over the valley and two comfortable chairs. It has good heating but it is well insulated and the sun often heats it sufficiently. There is a door to the garden and two opening windows. Watching life and the weather changing in the valley is a favourite activity |
