The original Manor House was built in the 13-14th century and some of the foundations are still visible. The present 16th century building was a single large room and formed the local office of the Manor of Wakefield.

Over the centuries walls have been built, a floor put in to form 2 stories and one extension added. In 2006, we added another as a separate family flat.

The property is set in a secluded hamlet of 5 houses on a south facing slope above Upper Calderdale in Pennine Yorkshire, 450 feet above and 1 mile from Hebden Bridge. The large garden has been landscaped to form a series of smaller gardens of differing styles. A stone terrace runs the full length of the southern facade and guests are invited to stroll in the garden.

In season we can offer fresh vegetables from the garden and honey from our bees can be bought as a souvenir.

Hebden Bridge has recently been dubbed "a quirky town" with "great little shops". It is a choke point through the hills, with road, rail, river and canal all elbowing for restricted space. The railway station lies on the main line between Leeds and Manchester, giving easy access to both. A few miles east is Halifax with its amazing Piece Hall, whilst over the moors to the north is Haworth and Bronte country and Keighley with its steam railway.

We have recorded 36 species of birds in the garden and many others passing over. Peregrines and ravens nest nearby.

Kitchen
The kitchen area takes up the north east corner of the living space. The fitted cupboards hold ample china, glass and cutlery, as well as pans, boards and bowls. There is a 2-ring electric hob and a microwave with grill.
Living Room
In the living area there are 2 easy chairs with a TV, video and DVD player. There is a selection of pre-recorded tapes, magazines and books, as well as brochures about local places of interest.

Behind the chairs is a small dining table with 2 chairs.

Most of the south wall is glass, with French windows opening on to the terrace, inviting guests to stroll in the garden or sit at ease in the folding chairs. The spacious shower room is off the living area.

Upstairs the galleried bedroom, with fitted furniture, also benefits from the full length windows.
