The cottage is newly thatched and on the outskirts of this quiet village. Nothing has changed very much here and there is a beautiful 15th Century church, shop with Post Office and good Inn serving excellent food. This area in the south of Somerset is close to the Dorset and Devon borders with a mass of interesting places to visit. We are about 30 minutes from the south coast and 45 minutes from the west coast. The classic gardens are well looked after and very popular. They include Lambrook Manor (Margery Fish made this famous), Barrington Court, Montecute House, Hadspen and Hestercombe. There are many National Trust houses, Abbeys, Cathedrals and historic sites to visit. These include Wells Cathedral, Sherborne Abbey, Montecute House, Lytes Cary Manor, Tynesfield House and many others. The cities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter and Salisbury are within easy driving distance. Known in the past for Cider making, this still happens and the local cider is called 'scrumpy' which should be taken with care! My family has lived in the district for several generations and between my husband and myself, we have a good knowledge of the local and area and further afield. There are good cycle routes and they can be hired very easily. There are very good walks around the cottage and indeed village and these can incorporate other local villages with good pubs for lunch or dinner. Should you choose to come to Norton-sub-Hamdon, I can assure you a very warm welcome.
